ELEVENTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA. * IN presenting the eleventh annual report of your Society to the members, the Board of Directors have to report the following work accomplished by the Society since March 3d, 1902: 1. Minutes of Middletown Monthly Meeting, 1683-1754. 2. New Castle Court Records, 1676-1681. 3. Private Parochial Record of Richard U. Morgan, D. D., containing baptisms, marriages and burials per¬ formed by him, commencing with his ministry, May 8, 1822. 4. Philadelphia Wills, 1815-1819, indexed and bound. 5. Philadelphia Wills, 1820-1823, copied but not yet in¬ dexed. 6. Enough genealogical data has been mounted to make two large volumes, one of which is composed of newspaper clippings from the “ Boston Evening Transcript ” and the “ Mail and Express,” and one of manuscript sketches relat¬ ing to Humphreys, Aubrey, Collins, Hammond, and other families, a copy of the will of John Bartram, botanist, and obituary notices from “ Pennsylvania Gazette,” “Chronicle,” “ Evening Post,” and “ Weekly Mercury ” all of which has been presented by the Historical Society of Penn¬ sylvania. 7. The abstracting of marriage and obituary notices from Poulson’s “ American Daily Advertiser ” is still being con¬ tinued ; also the abstracting of Philadelphia wills, 18231825. — ( 348) Eleventh Annual Report 349 The Board have to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of the following gifts : 1. The “ Irish Scots ” and the “ Scotch-Irish,” by Hon. John C. Linchan, presented by American-Irish Historical Society. 2. “ Michael Bacon and His Descendants,” presented by Leon Brooks Bacon. 3. “Essex Institute Collections,” Vols. 38-39, presented by Essex Institute. 4. “ The Journal of the Reverend Silas Constant,” with Records and Notes by Emily Warren Roebling, presented by Mrs. Washington August Roebling, edited by Josiah Granville Leach, LL. D. 5. “Bulletin of New York Public Library,” 5 numbers. 6. “ The Era,” presented by the publishers. They also have to report that your Society is in good financial condition, as is seen by the Treasurer’s report, which will be presented to you this evening and which will speak for itself. Of course the Board could do more work, and in fact the work which we would like to do is almost unlimited, but we are enabled only to proceed with work for which wre have funds. An increase of membership would enable us to advance our work very much. The Board have to report that Mr. Thomas Allen Glenn felt obliged to present his resignation as one of its members, and that the same was accepted with regret. Mr. Glenn was present at the second meeting of the Society, February 17th, 1892, and was an old and valued member of the Board. The vacancy thus created by Mr. Glenn’s resigna¬ tion was filled by the election of Mr. Alfred Smith, who, we regret to say, died, as well as Charles Hare Hutchinson, Esq., also a valued member of the Board. These two vacancies in the Board were filled by the election of Mr. Henry Pemberton, Jr., and Mr. Charles Howard Colket, both of whom are much interested in genealogical research. Mr. Francis Olcott Allen, who had been Corresponding 350 Eleventh Annual Report. Secretary of the Society for many years, finding he could not give the time to it, presented his resignation, and with much regret it was accepted and the vacancy in the Corre¬ sponding Secretaryship was filled by the election of a mem¬ ber of your Board, Mr. Stephenson Hockley Walsh. The Board have to further report that a special com¬ mittee, consisting of Henry Pemberton, Jr., chairman, Morgan Bunting, Gilbert Cope and Oliver Hough, was appointed to take into consideration the whole question of Friends' Records and report to the Board the result of their investigation, and as to the practicability of having these records, which have not yet been copied, properly copied and placed among our archives. Mr. Pemberton has generously contributed $100.00 towards making a com¬ plete copy of these records. The Board also have to report that Mr. Colket, a member of your Board, at his own expense, has had prepared and mailed to members of the Historical Society, a notice call¬ ing attention to the desirability of their joining this Society. Mr. Colket’s efforts have been quite successful, and we are glad to report that sixty new members have been elected at the last meeting of the Board, four of whom were Life members. There have been ten resignations during the year, and at the present time our list contains three hundred and nine Annual members and nineteen Life members. The Board beg to return thanks to the Librarian, the Assistant Librarian, and the staff of the Historical Society, who have been most kind and efficient in giving the Board of Directors much assistance during the past year. The number of inquiries for genealogical data and books is yearly increasing, and almost all of the answers to these inquiries have to be made by the Librarian and the Assist¬ ant Librarian and the Staff of the Historical Society, and their work has undoubtedly been very much increased by the formation of our Society, and for that reason we more than ever recognize their attention to this Society. Eleventh Annual Report. 351 The Board have to report since March 3d, 1902, the death of the following members : Samuel L.
