At the last annual Meeting of the Society March 1st, 1909, the members had the pleasure of hearing our fellowmember Charles F. Jenkins, Esq., read a most interesting paper entitled "Lafayette in Germantown," which was enhanced in interest by beautiful stereopticon views. The Board re-convened after the annual meeting and re-elected Rear Admiral Edward Shippen, M. D., U. S. N. (retired), President ; Col. J. Granville Leach and Richard McCall Cadwalader, Vice-Presidents ; Edward S. Sayres, Recording Secretary ; James Emlen, Corresponding Secretary, and C. Howard Colket, Treasurer. The Board have to report that on November 15th, 1909, they adopted the following " By-law " in lieu and place of Section VI, Article II of the By-laws, to wit : "If any active member shall allow the annual Dues to become more than two years in arrears his or her membership shall thereupon cease." As has been referred to constantly in our earlier reports, the field for work of this Society is almost inexhaustible, but we confine our efforts mostly to those records of this City or adjacent Country which are in some manner connected by history or otherwise with the City; if we do go afar, it is with some particular reason. The Board will be glad to receive from members any suggestions that they have as to knowledge of records which would be deemed advisable to copy and will give such suggestions careful and considerate thought. We believe the work heretofore done by this Society will bear the test of careful scrutiny, and will be found such as will benefit the greatest number. The Board have to report with regret the death, since the last annual meeting, of seven members, viz : William Eighteenth Annual Report. 273 P. Henszey, Rev. Henry J. Rowland, Henry C. Lea, Israel W. Morris, Francis Olcott Allen, Dr. James Paul. Four members have resigned and two have been dropped under the new By-laws, for non-payment of dues of two years. We have been fortunate enough during the year, due to the energy of our Treasurer, to elect twenty-one members, and our roster of membership at this time is as follows : Honorary, 3; Life, 33; Annual, 226. The Treasurer's Report, which will be presented this evening, shows the Society in good financial condition, but we could use much more funds than we have, with credit to the Society and satisfaction to our members. The Publication Committee are now about issuing a new publication which will be mailed to all our members. Our thanks are again tendered to the Council, Librarian, Curator and staff of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, for many courtesies and kindness tendered to the Society during the year. Our Clerk and transcriber, Miss Bunting, has given her usual and careful attention to her manifold duties. All of which is respectfully submitted on behalf of the Board of Directors by EDWARD SHIPPEN, M. D., Rear Admiral U. S. N. (Retired) President. EDWARD S. SAYRES, Recording Secretary.
