ANNOUNCING NEW FELLOW: JAMES M. DUFFIN James M. Duffin was elected a Fellow of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania by unanimous action of the society’s Board of Directors at its April meeting. Duffin was recommended to the Board by the Fellowship Committee, which is chaired by Annette K. Burgert, FGSP, FASG. Duffin, a life member of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, is currently Technical Services Archivist at the University of Pennsylvania’s University Archives and Records Center. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History from Temple University’s College of Liberal Arts and is a Master of Science candidate in Drexel University’s College of Information Science and Technology. Duffin has also had graduate studies in American History from Temple’s Graduate School. Before becoming Technical Services Archivist, Duffin was the Archivist for the ENIAC Trial Record Preservation Project from 1996 to 1998. This project brought together the most valuable collection of primary source materials documenting the history of the modern computer. He has also been a Project Archivist for Independence National Historical Park, Germantown Academy, and the City Archives of Philadelphia. He worked with the Rheinisches Frelicht Museum in Kommern, Germany, for two years as Research Consultant and Collaborator, providing the museum with background on a legal battle regarding land in Philadelphia and Bucks counties that was vital to its “Brave New World: Rhinelanders Conquer America” exhibit that opened in April 2001 in Germany. Among Duffin’s publications have been two major works for GSP, Guide to the Sale of Commonwealth Properties in the City and County of Philadelphia, 1781—1798 and Guide to the Mortgages of the General Loan Office of Pennsylvania, 1724—1755. Planned for release later this year is a book he edited with assistance from Dr. Don Yoder, FGSP, Acta Germanopolitana: The Records of the Corporation of Germantown, 1691 to 1707, being published by the Colonial Society of Pennsylvania and the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. Duffin has written articles such as “An ‘Attempt to Rescue from Oblivion’ the History of the First Paper Mill in American: William McCullouch’s Notes Regarding the Rittenhouse Paper Mills” in Rittenhouse Town: A Journal of History, 1(2000); “The First Map of Germantown: A Neglected Source” in the Germantown Crier 44(1992): 4—17; and other articles in the Germantown Crier on landowners in Germantown and Mount Airy. He has also translated articles from German for use in the Germantown Crier. Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine Vol. 42 (2001) Final copy 31 January, 2010 82
