Gartman of York County from Bischweiler in 1752 and 1765

GARTMAN OF YORK COUN1Y FROM BISCHWEJLER IN 1752 AND 1765 22 November 1752 on the Phoenix 1 Jacob Gartman (mark) possibly sister Anna Maria Gartman 19 September 1765 on the Betsey 2 Isaac Cartman [sic] (mark) wife Susanna Maria (Schnall) son Isaac Gartmann daughter Maria Elisabetha Gartmann daughter Maria Salome Gartmann Jacob Gartman who came on the Phoenix in 1752 with so many others from Bischweiler was a younger brother of Isaac "Cartman" who came thirteen years later. There is no marriage for Jacob in Bischweiler, and no Pennsylvania records have been located, so it is uncertain if he left de• scendants. The Gartman family had three Isaacs of an age to be the immigrant, born in 1722, 1729, and 1731, respectively. In reading the burials to separate them, it became apparent that the extended family, who were often described as woolenweavers, must have lived in proximity, possibly sharing quarters, as the family deaths came in clumps, with several family units losing a member in the space of a month or so.
