Memorial Notices: Thomas Hart 1894-1975 With deep regret the Society reports the death, in his eighty-first year, on 25 April 1975, of Thomas Hart, Esquire, a member of this Society since 19 November 1917. Services were held on Tuesday, 29 April 1975, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Philadelphia. Born in Philadelphia, 24 November 1894, Thomas Hart graduated in 1912 from Episcopal Academy, where he later served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and in 1916 from the University of Pennsylvania. He later received his law degree from the University and practiced law in Philadelphia for over thirty years, retiring as senior partner of Hart, Childs, Hepburn, Ross & Putnam. He served in both World Wars. A man of deep commitment to community welfare, Mr. Hart was President of Preston Maternity Hospital, Board Chairman of Magee Memorial Hospital, and was active on behalf of other hospitals in the Philadelphia area and in Cape May Court House, N.J. He also served as President of the Athenaeum Library and for forty five years was on the Board of Managers of Spring Garden College. His interest in genealogy had many facets: he was President of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution, and Governor of the Colonial Society of Pennsylvania and of the Society of Colonial Wars. Thomas Hart served this Society long and well: elected Counsel in 1952, he filled that post with distinction, and was elected Vice President in 1958. He was named Honorary Vice President in 1969, which position he held at the time of his death. Mr. Hart is survived by his wife, the former Virginia Dilkes Harrison; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. To them the Society extends its deepest sympathy. 156 Memorial Notices 157 Mrs. Andrew Drysdale The Genealogical Society reports with sorrow the death, on 2 June 1975, of Mn. Andrew Drysdale, in her eightieth year. Services were held on Friday, 6 June 1975, at Christ Church Old Swedes, in Swedesburg, near Bridgeport, with interment in Washington Memorial Chapel Cemetery, Valley Forge. Born Rebecca R. Schell, she attended the Schissler College of Business, and began a business career in 1926 that included positions as secretary and assistant treasurer of several railroad companies. Her great interest in genealogy was manifested by her service as Regent of the Valley Forge Chapter of the DAR, Treasurer of the Pennsylvania DAR, and Registrar of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Beard of Governors of the Swedish Colonial Society, and a member of the Huguenot Society and the Athenaeum. A Life Member of the Genealogical Society since 1955, and a member of the Board of Directors from 1967 to 1973, Mrs. Drysdale was a continuous benefactor of the Society and in her will left it a generous bequest. Her husband, a Captain in the Merchant Marine, pre-deceased her. There are no immediate survivors.
