Christopher R. C. Custer 1893-1970 T HE Genealogical Society reports with sorrow the death of Christopher Ramsey Caldwell Custer on 28 August 1970. The Society's treasurer since 1965, Mr. Custer's keen mind and devotion to the Society's interests will be sorely missed. Funeral services were held at Br'inghurst's, 2000 Walnut Street, 31 August, and interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Born in Philadelphia 30 June 1893, son of George Custer (18501894 ) and his wife Kate Ramsey (1851-1931 ) , he attended Philadelphia and New Jersey public schools, Camden Commercial College, and the University of Pennsylvania, graduating from the latter's Evening School of Accounts and Finance in 1916. From 1917 until his retirement in 1954, he was associated with the Autocar Company of Ardmore, of which he was elected vice president and comptroller in 1932, and executive vice president and treasurer in 1948. He was a founding member of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Association of Cost Accountants, and a member and former director of the Controllers Institute of America, now the Financial Executives Institute. He was a Mason, and held memberships in the Merion Cricket Club, and in the Historical Societies of Pennsylvania, of Montgomery County and of Vineland, N.J. He was a member of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, and a former vice president of the Board of Trustees of the Overbrook Presbyterian Church. On 3 April 1918, he married in Philadelphia Carolyn Brick Lynch, born 7 July 1895, daughter of Joseph Edward Lynch and his wife Anna Roll. They had two children, Carolyn Lenore Custer and Richard Custer, both of whom survive. Mrs. Custer died 1 June 1963, and Mr. Custer married secondly, on 16 February 1966, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Edith Zollickoffer Otto, widow of George F. Otto, and daughter of Alfred Howard Zollickoffer and his wife Ida Mehring. To Mrs. Custer, Mr. Custer's children and three grandchildren the Society extends its deepest sympathy, as it mourns the loss of so valued a member. 267
