Schmeier and Klein Family Registers Contributed by HENRY J. YOUNG The two family registers here translated from the German are separately lettered in black Fractur, but as they are on paper of the same manufacture and agree in calligraphy and literary style, deal with families originating in a certain sector of Lehigh County, and were offered for sale at the same time by a manuscripts dealer in Baltimore, it is likely that some relationship between the Schmeier and Klein families developed that is not manifest in the two texts. Uneven tearing and cutting along the left-hand edges is consistent with the possibility that they were removed from family Bibles, but if so the Klein register is taken from a longer and wider volume. In reading the Schmeier record, one caution is perhaps necessary: certain Schmeiers married Schweiers.
