EDITOR’S NOTES ADDED DETAILS AND SERENDI PITIES A s genealogists, we sometimes seem to focus our research efforts on filling in the dates for births, marriages, and deaths or on the prob¬ lem of identifying a wife or parents, thereby reducing our ancestors to information on a family group sheet or pedigree chart. Our ancestors, however, were three-dimensional. To add that dimension accurately, we must gather as many documents as possible to provide those added details. In this issue we have all of these elements. Family Bible records and church marriage records provide dates for vital events, sometimes with added details. Quaker marriage certificates provide the marriage date, of course, but in the names of the numerous witnesses, they provide an added detail about each witness— attendance at the wedding. An article identifying parents shows the value of researching the whole family, in this case each sister providing pieces of the puzzle. The abstracts of vot¬ ers lists, jury lists, and court records provide many instances of added details, albeit primarily for our male ancestors. In the voters’ lists it is interesting to notice the variations from our cur¬ rent voting process. There appears to have been no slate of candidates. Rather, each freeholder named the men they thought most qualified. Thus, there was often a long list of men who received votes, sometimes only one or two apiece. This issue also contains some serendipities. As some of our readers know, 1 also edit the New York. Genealogical and Biographical Record. Recently, as a result of housecleaning preparatory to a move, a stack of Bible records was shipped to me from what had been the editor's office in New York City. They had been accumulating since the 1940s in the editor’s office, the stack slowing increasing. Some were not appropriate for publication in the Record because they were geographical orphans, with no New York connection, including some for Pennsylvania families. We have been given permission to publish those in PGM ; two are in this issue.
