EDITOR’S NOTES CHANGES AT PGM T his issue of the Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine is my last as editor. I took on that role in 2001. During those ten years its pages have presented abstracts with thousands and thousands of names to help those conducting research into their Pennsylvania ancestry. This issue, for example, concludes the abstracts of lists of voters and of courts of Oyer and Terminer. We have also presented numerous compiled articles, articles revealing origins, and genealogically oriented articles about per¬ sons or families with a meaningful presence in the history of Pennsylva¬ nia. This issue includes such varied articles as the English origin of the family of noted entertainer W. C. Fields, an informative piece on tracing the free Black Truman family of Fayette County, the interesting reason that the wife of William Dehart of Berks County seemed to have two totally different first names, and the descendants of the merchant Kollock family who settled in Nova Scotia, New England, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the South, and the West Indies. For the forthcoming year, I will assume the role of coeditor with Aaron Goodwin, who will assume sole editorship in 2012. It is time for another change, too. In its early years— and in difficult times such as the war years— Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine was published very irregularly (until 1947 as Publications of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania). As a result, each volume covered a number of years. In the early sixties it settled into a pattern of each volume contain¬ ing four issues, published two per year, most recently vaguely designated as Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. This is the system followed during the years of my editorship. Beginning with 201 I, we will switch to one vol¬ ume per year, in sync with the other scholarly journals, comprised of two issues, April and October, of ninety-six pages each, their current length. This means there will be an annual index, a boon to members and librar¬ ies alike (this volume’s two-year index, for example, contains over ten thousand names). Nothing will he changing about the high scholarly standards of PGM. It has long been held to be among the premier scholarly genealogical jour¬ nals, and it will remain exactly that.
