Inscriptions on the Tombstones in the Free Quakers' Graveyard
Description
Free Quakers were disowned by the Society of Friends for taking up arms during the Revolutionary War. They erected a place of worship at the SW corner of 5th and Arch Streets, and established a burial ground on the west side of 5th Street below Locust Street. The remains were removed to the Fatlands (also known as the 'Free Quaker Plot") in Montgomery County in 1905. The relocated, small burial ground is located off Paulings Road in Audubon, PA, near the Schuylkill River and the Audubon Loop of the Schuylkill River Trail, often requiring a short walk into a wooded area to locate. These are transcriptions of the gravestones circa the time of removal.
